Diasporas and international audiovisual creation

Speaking of a single "market" would be an analytical error. Four distinct realities coexist and call for different production approaches.

Four realities to distinguish

Cinema produced in Africa refers to works made on the continent, with local companies and crews. African audiovisual industries cover, more broadly, the economic and institutional sectors of each country.

Diaspora cinemas refer to works produced outside the continent by authors from those diasporas. Works by Afro-descendant creators belong to a category of authors, not a production territory.

Why no market size is put forward

To our knowledge there is no methodologically relevant study establishing a homogeneous global "Afro-descendant" market or its financial value. No such data is therefore published here.

The only aggregates reproduced on this site come from identified organisations, dated and linked to their primary source.
