A dated benchmark
According to UNESCO, 2021 report, Nigeria produces around 2,500 films per year. This figure counts titles and says nothing about budgets, durations or modes of exploitation.
A high volume of titles does not equate to an equivalent volume of revenue or exports: the two dimensions must be analysed separately.
What it changes for co-production
For a European producer, the value of a partnership is measured not by volume but by execution capacity, rights security and contractual clarity.
Discussions are structured around intellectual property, territory splits and delivery obligations, whatever the market of origin.
