Financing an Africa–Europe co-production

The starting point of a co-production is the split of shares between producers, the intended nationality of the work and the applicable treaties. These choices then determine eligibility for public schemes.

Each scheme sets its own criteria: applicant company, project stage, team composition, submission calendar. They must be read on the official pages before any budget is built.

On the French side, Aide aux cinémas du monde is jointly managed by the CNC and the Institut français; its conditions, committees and calendars are published on both institutions' websites.

Within the French-speaking space, the Fonds Image de la Francophonie supports projects under terms published by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. Amounts, categories and sessions appear in the official notice.

A complete chain of title, signed authors' contracts, a financing plan consistent with the shooting schedule and a written co-production agreement: these are the four elements most often missing at submission.
